[Book: 'Knit Happy With Self-Striping Yarns' by Stephanie Lotven] [Book: 'Mini Kingdom' by Olka Novytska] [Book: 'Knit-It-Yourself' by Emma Wright]

If you like the look of self-striping sock yarn, but you're not so keen on knitting socks, then you might want to check out Stephanie Lotven's Knit Happy With Self-Striping Yarns. She's constructed sweaters and shawls in ways that allow the colors to stripe in the same pleasing way that they do in socks. The book includes 25 patterns, for everything but socks!

All of the characters in Mini Kingdom are fabulous, but the knight is my favorite. If you could do with with a knight-in-crocheted-armor in your life, then look no further.

The knight and some friends from Mini Kingdom, by Olka Novytska

One of the things that's great about knitting and crochet is being able to make unusual things that you can't buy in the shops. However I worry that some of the things I've designed myself are a bit too unusual and nobody would buy them in the shops even if they could. The designs in Knit-It-Yourself hit the sweet spot for me in terms of style—colorful and different, but not outlandish. And you can always choose some louder colors if you're not as squeamish as me about standing out in a crowd!
