Newly-published books

[Book: 'Knitting Modular' by Melissa Leapman] [Book: 'Winter Knits from Scandinavia' by Jenny Alderbrant] [Book: 'Knit How' by Pom Pom Press]

Melissa Leapman's Knitting Modular provides endless opportunities to construct your own shawls and wraps, with a simple starting block and guidance on ways to complete your own knitting puzzle. She also gives some beautiful patterns of her own just in case geometry isn't your thing. It looks like a very satisfying book.

I confess that when I saw the title of Jenny Alderbrant's Winter Knits from Scandinavia, I wasn't inspired. I love the Scandi style, but how many pairs of stranded mittens does a knitter need? One look at the picture below changed my mind—it turns out I do need more, cat ones especially.

Pom Pom Press have brought out Knit How at the perfect time to help those picking up the needles for the first time in the New Year. It covers the absolute basics and first patterns through to different textures, simple stripes, and more complicated-looking cables. Given how much I usually like Pom Pom's publications, I'm looking forward to getting a closer look at this to see if it can become my go-to book recommendation for novice knitters.
