Newly-published books

Baby & Kids Crochet Style by Jennifer Dougherty is a beautiful book and doesn't disappoint with its content either. It's not just the attractive designs that impress me, but also the amount of effort that it must have taken to get all those babies to sleep on cue!

Christine Perry's aim in More Super Socks is to bridge the gap between a basic sock pattern and some of the more complex designs that are available. She provides tutorials for simple cable, lace and colorwork socks so knitters can build their confidence step by step.

I met Christine last year when we spent a morning together with our mutual friend Kate Makin from Northern Yarn. Knowing that we both have a fondness for sheep, Kate had asked us to help her sort the lambswool fleeces for her second batch of Poll Dorset 4-ply. It was smelly and tiring but as a city girl it felt like such a privilege to be there. I thoroughly recommend the experience if you ever get offered the chance!

Pompom Noel by Alistair MacDonald isn't strictly knitting or crochet but it does involve yarn—and it seems I can't resist a Father Christmas made with pompoms! There are instructions for snowmen, robins, Mrs Christmas and more besides. I reckon even if I feel overwhelmed with Christmas knitting I'll still be able to find the energy to make these.

Intarsia workshop

I'm going to be at Wild and Woolly in London, UK, on Sunday 11th November, teaching a class on intarsia. The class includes patterns for the two hats shown above. If you've never tried intarsia before, or you have but ended up with a tangle of yarns and a zillion ends to sew in, then come along! It would be great to see you there.
